These guidelines provide general information
for those organising Horse Events in
Queensland. After the successful eradication
campaign of Equine Influenza (EI) in 2007 it
remains vital that equestrian activities
continue to follow good biosecurity measures
to minimize the risk of spreading infectious
diseases.
Recommendation for
Event Organisers:
Registration of the Horse Event with PI&F is
encouraged at least 3 days before the event.
Register your Horse Event online, or via the
PI&F Call Centre 132523.
This will enable the PI&F to contact Event Organisers with information should an
emergency situation arise while an event
is in progress.
Prepare and Implement a
RISK MITIGATION PLAN:
The RMP should include:
|

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Veterinarian to be on call during event
- Provide method of making emergency phone calls or alternate communication
- Limit public access to stable areas
- Provide separate vehicle parking for competitors from spectator parking
- Create single entry and exit to grounds
- Provide designated isolation area (or Stable) for sick horse
- Officials/stewards (including gear check) practice good hygiene between horses
Develop a CONTINGENCY PLAN
should a stock standstill (Lockdown) be declared.
|
Event Records should be kept of:
All Horses:
- Name of Horse
- Identification of Horse/s (Brand/Microchip No., Sex, Colour
- PIC (Property Identification Code) location where the horse came from
All Riders:
- Name
- Address
- Phone Number
Event Organisers have a duty of care to participants and their horses. Event
Organisers should keep Event Attendance Records for a period of 6 months.
However, Primary responsibility for
Biosecurity at Horse events lies with the Horse Owners and Competitors, long before the event.
