Press Release - for immediate release 23 January 2008
Queensland Horse Council ready for EI recovery
The Queensland Horse Council Inc. is committed to continuing its role as the peak industry body in Queensland as the industry moves from EI crisis to recovery management. This weekend the Queensland Horse Council Inc (QHC) formed an Industry Advisory Committee comprised of delegates from its wide base of member organizations. “The purpose of this committee is to liaise with State and Federal Governments regarding industry issues. Of course its current focus will be on the EI recovery process”, newly appointed QHC President Mrs Julie de Visser advised.
Mrs de Visser was elected as President after the regretful resignation of Dr Mark Hohenhaus.
Mrs de Visser says, “Dr Hohenhaus' decision was not easy for him to make. He has contributed a great deal to both the QHC and to Queensland's horse industry in general for many years. Dr Hohenhaus has worked tirelessly during the past five months through the EI crisis and we are extremely grateful for his efforts.”
Both Mr Bob Frappell, President of the Queensland Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Mr Graham Sleeman, President of the Australian Trail Horse Riders Association Qld (ATHRA Qld) have endorsed the new leadership of the QHC. Mr John Deigan of Pony Club Queensland said that his 12,000 members see the continuation of the Queensland Horse Council's role as critical for the health of the entire horse industry in Queensland.
“This is a remarkable time for the horse industry and we have seen an increase in membership as the industry seeks to unite and consolidate which can only be seen as a positive outcome from the otherwise grim EI outbreak,” said Mrs de Visser.
An open invitation is extended by the QHC to all members of the horse industry to attend the Queensland Horse Industry Convention on Saturday 2 February 2008 at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus.
Established in 1986, the Queensland Horse Council consistently addresses problems affecting the horse industry. The work of the QHC is crucial to representing the voice of all industry members to the Government.
The QHC has worked tirelessly to represent its 21,000 strong membership over many years in negotiations with Government on issues such as the public liability crisis and state forest trails issue and we are now working actively on the EI crisis and recovery process.
