QUEENSLAND'S HORSE INDUSTRY GALLOPS AHEAD
Queensland's Horse Industry made a huge and positive step forward yesterday towards being a united industry, by endorsing the Queensland Horse Council Inc (QHC) as the State's Peak Industry Body at a Conference in Brisbane.
Queensland Horse Council President Julie de Visser says, “It is our understanding that the purpose of this conference was to assist the pleasure and performance horse sector to self-determine its future and to assist industry to unite.”
Over 170 delegates from across the State, representing Queensland's pleasure and performance horse sector attended the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries “The Way Forward” conference yesterday, as the final part of the industry engagement workshops and forums. Also in attendance at the conference were delegates from Queensland's racing industry, businesses and allied organisations as well as State Government officials.
During the course of the day delegates watched presentations and participated in workshops. “We have heard a loud and clear message from Industry that the trust has not come automatically, but after careful consideration,” said Julie de Visser. “Today actions definitely spoke louder than words and we are taking the first steps to rebuilding a stronger Horse Industry in Queensland.
Like Industry, we see the next few months as critical, and look forward to everyone's participation. In the aftermath of Equine Influenza, Industry has realised that it can no longer be complacent about its Peak Body. The Queensland Horse Council will only be as strong as its members, so it is absolutely critical that we get this right. We will continue to work closely with both our members and with all levels of Government.”
Yesterday's meeting was a double celebration for the Horse Industry with the Amber Zone becoming Green. This moves the State another step closer to being internationally recognised as Equine Influenza free.
Established in 1986, the Queensland Horse Council consistently addresses issues affecting the horse industry. The work of the QHC is crucial to representing the voice of all industry members to the Government.
